Preliminary The Puranas are eighteen in number. Of these, the Skanda Purana is the biggest. The teachings of the Vedas and the Upanishads are beyond the grasp of the average intellect. Sri Vyasa Bhagavan who codified the Vedas has therefore given the truths of the Vedas in a homely style in the Puranas for the easy understanding of the common man. The Puranas are like the magnifying glasses which reveal the subtle truths in a graspable manner, and they appeal easily to the sentiments of man. Two Skanda Puranas are available—one divided into Khandas, and the other divided into Samhitas.
Gods like Brahma , Vishnu , Rudra and many other deities assembled for the marriage and coronation ceremony of Shanmukha for which waters of several holy rivers were brought. With these waters of Mahabhisheka fell down to form a river which was later known by the popular name Kumaradhara. The great Shiva Bhakta and Serpent king Vasuki was performing tapas for years in the Biladwara caves of Kukke Subrahmanya to avoid the attack of Garuda. Following Lord Shiva's assurance Shanmuka gave darshan to Vasuki and blessed him that he would stay with his parama bhakta in this place forever.
Hence the poojas offered to Vasuki or Nagaraja are nothing but the poojas to Lord Subrahmanya. Originally this temple was sanctified by Moroja family who are Sthanika Tulu brahmins. Sthanika tulu brahmins stronghold was kukke Subrahmanya, They were the chief priests and tantris of the temple till after bashful murder of their Guru, the Spiritual Leader-;-His Holiness Padma Theertha a disciple of the Sringeri Jagadguru Peetam.
The Madhvas shivallis built a mutt adjacent to the temple.

Lord Subramanya is known as the protector from Kaalasarpa dosha and Kuja dosha.
Kukke Sri Kshetra temple is the most popular for Sarpadosha. Aslesha Bali is performed on Aslesha nakshatra in each month.
Those who want to perform this ceremony need to report for sankalpa with Purohita inside the temple either at am or 9. After the completion of Homa Poornahuthi, devotees will get prasada. Devotees believe Shravana masa , Karthika masa , and Margashira masa are the most auspicious months to perform Aslesha bali at Kukke temple. There are, of course many more such mantras in the vedas. However, the recitation of these mantras requires learning them from a guru and many of us are unable to get such an opportunity, especially in this modern age.
But, the stotrams from purANAs and the tantras can be chanted by one and all, with no exceptions.
In thamiz tradition, skanda, or murukan as he is called, is considered the very embodiment of all good and it is held that he is eager to bestow GYAnA to one and all. Thus, true to tradition, at the end of the stotram he says that anyone chanting his 28 names, even if he is unable to speak will become accomplished in speech, like Brihaspati.
The person who considers this as mahA mantra and chants them will attain mahA praGYA great intelligence. Some of the names refer to some legends associated with skanda. Skanda said: The person who reads my 28 names told here with concentration, in the morning, obtains equal status with Brihaspati in speech, even if he cannot speak.
He is considered to be eternal. Hence the name Kumara. In his iconography he is depicted with one head and two arms or six heads and twelve arms.
The six heads symbolically represent the five senses and the mind, the six tattvas and the six chakras. Originally a bachelor god, with the rise of Tantricism he became associated with two principal Shaktis, Valli and Devasena.
The former came from a humble background while the latter is the daughter of Indra. His weapon is a lance with which he destroyed the demon Tarakasura.
According to the latter, Kartikeya was born under strange circumstances. Agni swallowed the energy of Siva as per the wishes of gods, but much to the annoyance of Parvathi.
Unable to bear the intensity of the energy Agni secretly impregnated the six wives of Rishis with it through the pores in their skin.
After bearing the energy of Siva they were unable to carry it further. So they dropped it on the Himalayas. Himavant the mountain god was also unable to bear the energy.
So he dropped it in the river Ganges.
