Jul 27, Jerry rated it it was amazing An excellent look at the story of King David, and what it means to us today. I have read that Max Lucado is called America's Pastor and after reading this book I can understand why. What Pastor Lucado brings to life is that those same challenges face us today and we can use David as our example and win over these challenges just the way David did. The chapters deal with desperation, raging bosses, dry season, disappointments and dashed hopes. Through it all there is God who gives the strength and wisdom to overcome no matter what the challenge of the giant is. There are nineteen chapters and each chapter deals with a specific challenge that David had to deal with in his life and, at some point, we will have to deal with them as well. If we focus on the giants, we stumble if we focus on God, the giants tumble.

Max Lucado gives a great synopsis on David, as being humble, dependable and most importantly, a seeker of GOD. David struggled through the jealous rage of Saul, facing the perils of family issues, and even, a moment of vanity, that threatened everything, he had faught for!
The evidence, lies in the prolific Psalms he had written, in which has stood the 'test of time! We all have some kind of a giant Paperback Verified download. We all have some kind of a giant in our life and Max Lucado puts many of these giants together with people from the Bible. Our giants may seem different then the people from the Bible but they are not. Take time to read his book and let each chapter come to life and one may find one, two or more that apply.
In Facing Your Giants, Lucado helps us learn how to allow God to work with us and remind us of whom we are to and in Him by relating everything to the story of David. For example, when David went up against Goliath, although everybody else focused on Goliath's credentials, armor, size, etc.
He had no doubt that the Lord would bring victory against this "pagan who mocks the Lord". And in this, we learn that if we focus on the giants in our lives, we'll lose to them, too. So instead, we need to keep our focus' on the Lord. There's a saying he uses: Focus on giants - you stumble.
Focus on God - your giants tumble. In the 2nd chapter, Lucado goes over the anointing of David as king. He explains that God sent Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint somebody new whom God has chosen, for even though Saul was still in office, God no longer considered him king.
At the feast with the town's elders and the family of Jessie, Jessie calls his sons in one at a time. Each one, Samuel thought the Lord had chosen, but God continued to turn them down.
With all the eldest brothers present, Samuel asks about the 8th child. The word they used for David means not only youngest, but also lowest in status, or rank.
David was the runt in the family But then when David finally walks in, God says to Samuel, "Arise, anoint him, for he's the one I've chosen. But God saw in David what nobody else took the time to notice God saw "a God-seeking heart. If you are facing an insurmountable problem in your life, You need to read this book. Very encouraging! Just the book I needed to read. I had just finished reading a real unsetting rubbish book and told my daughter I simply have to read a Max Lucado and opened the first one of the many I have on my Kindle not looking at the title.
I was in a very bad space and on Sunday evening I went to church as I was on duty, where on message was on prayer and quite expected it to be the same message I had heard in the morning.
You can imagine my surprise when our Pastor brought into a message about "Facing your Giants. Max thank you for the wonderful books you write. I'm still fighting "giants" with the help of our saviour I will be able to defeat them one day. I would recommend this book because first I love all of Max Lucado books and because he always causes me to see bible stories in a different light and in a way that is relevant for today.
Verified download. This book is about king David whom God described as a man after his own heart. When he trusted in God he could do anything.
When he trusted in himself he failed miserably. I plan to give a copy of this book to each of my children.
Another amazing book from Max. I own the hard copy but put it on my Kindle. This is a great book for a Bible study with the study guide in the back for each chapter.
Highly recommend it. See all reviews.
