The plans are basic compared to many woodworking plans available.
But this is because it purposely limits the equipment required and the plans are not chosen for the complexity, but as objects to teach techniques on how to use tools such as how to measure, drill, join, hammer, etc. And the authors explain why each technique works and the problems the technique avoids.
Which is helpful when you are like me and don't even have the minimal list of tools they list. Highly recommended as a starting point.

I think, especially as a woman, I when I think about projects that I want to make for my home, I want them to be things that are similar to items that I might download at Pottery Barn or another furniture store. This book is OK if you want a little more guidance on how to set up your woodshop or how to select tools, but as far as plans go I would either get a different book or check out another edition of this series.

If you're brand new to woodworking and what to get your feet wet, this would be a good place to start. Nothing too intimidating, but it's not all butt joints and pocket screws either. I found the pictures and illustrations to be clear and easily understood. The descriptions of the building process, I thought, were very easy to follow and didn't leave out any important information.

Has an excellent introduction which describes a basic tool set for a beginner, and how to use those tools. This site displays only a few free plans but they indicate that new plans become available from time to time. In order to get the free PDF downloadable plan, click on the free plan that you want. You are then taken to a opt-in page. You are informed that you must subscribe to their free weekly eTips, called Free Woodsmith Plans Newsletter, in order to get the free plan. All they ask for is your email address. After entering your email address, you are taken to their thank you page.
You are told to confirm your decision to subscribe by going to your email account and clicking on the link. The download button is also on this page.
The free weekly tips will arrive next time they send out an email blast. The plans are very detailed. On the right side of the page is a link to Free Woodworking Plans. On the next page, you are offered free and instant access to over woodworking projects. You will get an opt-in box asking for your first name and email address.
On the next page, you will be presented with offers for things you can download.
The email was sent to my spam folder, so be sure to check. This email has the link to download the plans, which are in a downloaded zip file.
There are PDF files but only some of them are plans. The other files contain woodworking tips. There is even a discussion about the types of wood that can be used.
There are about 10 plans to choose from. First you have to register with the site. You can begin this free registration process on this page.
Enter your email address, check the box to prove that you are not a robot and click the Send button. On the next page, you can choose one of the plans from the drop down menu.
The company usually charges for these plans but you can get one without paying because you gave them your email address. I chose the Shop Storage Cabinet plans. I was asked again to click on the cabinet link and was then presented with the plans in PDF format, which I saved to my computer. The plans include instructions on building the base, doors, drawer and cabinet.
